Front Royal Events & River Programs

Explore The Shenandoah River Valley

Special Events and Programs are offered at various times throughout the year. Below are some of our programs. Please check back often or call us at 1-800-270-8808 to inquire about a specific offering below.

Fall Foliage Paddle

No need to be stuck in a line of traffic to see the color change. Paddling the Shenandoah is a unique way to experience Fall foliage with the whole family; the views of the Blue Ridge and Massanutten Mountains from the river are unrivaled.

Plan your trip NOW. Peak foliage season is typically the second-third week in October. Prepaid trips on Sundays in October are only $45 per canoe or $33.00 per kayak!(Trips #1 and #2 only) It just doesn’t get any easier to experience the Shenandoah Valley’s special Fall season.

Sunset Paddle

Front Royal Outdoors offers a Guided Sunset Canoe Paddle covering a 3 mile section of the Shenandoah from Karo Landing to our base at Front Royal Outdoors. Come and enjoy a special time on the river that few guests have the opportunity to enjoy. Paddle, watch and listen as the sun fades and creates varying shades of colors on the mountains and river while nightlife for many river creatures begins. Drinks and snacks provided. For those more adventurous we suggest a drive on the Skyline Drive to catch the full moon rise over the Shenandoah Valley.  $50.00 per person. Schedule will be listed soon.

The Small Print: Minimum age – 12 years old, boat minimum will be 5 canoes, single guests will be provided a kayak or situated with others as needed, prepayment is required, trip goes rain or shine.

Guests may bring their own snacks and beverages in small coolers. Please be prepared for this special outing – check our What To Bring link. While insects are rarely bothersome, they can be problematic while on the river bank. Generally there is little to no problem once out on the river.

The Aqua Blaze

We were the first outfitter in the Valley to offer the Aqua Blaze program in 1982 for Appalachian Trail thru-hikers as a way to get off the trail for several days while still making progress northbound. We have now opened this program up to everyone that wants more time on the Shenandoah.

3 Days – 44 Miles

$160.00/Canoe

$109.00/Kayak

Hike and Paddle

We have developed two different Hike and Paddle options, the Marathon and the Mellow. The Marathon is just that, a 12 mile hike in the George Washington National Forest on Massanutten Mountain and a 12 mile paddle from Seekford landing to Bentonville landing, all in the same day. This trip is for the in shape athlete ready for a workout. You will need to be at our office right when we open to make sure you have enough time to complete the trip. The trip can be turned into a 2-day trip for those that want to take it easy. The Mellow is a lot more laid back. The hike is either a 3 mile or 5 mile on the trail system at the Shenandoah River State Park. After your hike we meet you at the Park boat launch and you paddle the Shenandoah 8 miles down to our office. Once you reach our office, we drive you back to your car in the Park. For more information and pricing details, please call the office at 800-270-8808.
