Our journey began in 1968 at a small campground south of Front Royal, VA, with just a few aluminum canoes and a deep love for the Shenandoah Valley and River. Back then, as Front Royal Canoe Base, we simply helped guests transport their canoes and navigate the river.
In the mid-1970s, we expanded, investing in a 15-passenger Dodge van and a custom canoe trailer, officially launching our river outfitter business. With this new phase, we rebranded as Front Royal Canoe Company and even began manufacturing our own Royalex canoes.
In 1981, we moved to our current riverside location, adding kayaks, tubes, and rafts to our fleet. By 2012, we had expanded further with additional riverside lodging. Today, we are proud to be a premier paddlesports retailer and full-service outfitter, offering canoes, kayaks, tandem kayaks, rafts, fishing kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and tubes, plus a well-stocked river store for last-minute essentials.
For those who work here, this isn’t just a job—it’s a way of life. The river has a way of pulling us in, becoming part of who we are. Our team isn’t just staff; we are a family, bonded by the spirit of adventure, the call of the water, and the beauty of the Shenandoah Valley.

Front Royal Outdoors is located at 8567 Stonewall Jackson Highway in Front Royal, Virginia, nestled in the scenic Shenandoah Valley. Situated along U.S. Route 340 South, it lies approximately three miles past the entrance to Skyline Drive and Shenandoah National Park. This prime location offers easy access to the South Fork of the Shenandoah River, making it an ideal starting point for river adventures.

Our season runs mid-March to early November.
Daily departures begin at 9AM on weekdays and 8AM on weekends.
